Mesh Hanging Banners – Lightweight and Windproof

Mesh Hanging Banners are lighter in weight than a traditional frontlit banner. Normal PVC outdoor banners are not recommended in winds of 30mph+ as hems and eyelets can be ripped out. Remember that a large non-mesh banner acts as a giant sail. Gusts of wind can easily destroy it as well as affect the structure it is fitted to. Larger non-mesh banners are fine as long as they are fitted against a solid surface or within a fixed wall-mounted tension-frame system.

Although they cost the same initially as a standard PVC Banner, thanks to a much lower wind resistance factor, Mesh Banners last much longer outdoors in typical British weather conditions – making them cheaper in the long run.

Why use a Mesh Hanging Banner?

  • Lighter and easier to fit
  • Allows wind to pass through
  • Reduces wind loading on fences, cafe barriers and scaffolding
  • Acoustically transparent for use over concert speakers
  • Hardwearing and scuff resistant

Mesh Hanging Banner Specifications

  • M1/B1 Flame Retardant product with certificate available
  • High quality reinforced 330gsm mesh material
  • Nickel plated eyelets with 12mm diameter hole
  • Ideal indoors or outdoors
  • Scratch and fade resistant

Any Design, Any Size

Our UV and Solvent printing machines print high resolution mesh panels at up to 5 metres in width. Larger banners are welded together allowing us to create windproof banners at any size. Design your artwork any way you like, just submit it to us as a CMYK PDF for best results. You can include background images, photographs, logos and text. Check our Artwork Guide for full instructions.

Fitting Mesh Hanging Banners

A professional survey of your intended installation site is advisable for any banners over 25 square metres in size. A surveyor will calculate wind-loading on the structure and advise on the fixings necessary.

Larger Mesh Banners such as Building Wraps are normally installed in sections, straight onto scaffolding using Bungee Shock Cord. Your scaffolder should ensure that no pole ends are projecting that they may damage your banner.

Without scaffolding, large mesh banners can also be installed using a wire cable frame and a criss-cross effect of bungee rope. This method allows even more give when the wind hits the mesh banner and ensures a secure and long-lasting installation.

Finishing Mesh Hanging Banners

As standard we hem and eyelet our Mesh Banners all round with webbing and metal eyelets. Pockets to slide poles through can be provided at no extra cost, please specify the pole diameter in your order notes. Check our Guide to Pole Pockets on Banners.

As an option you can select Heavy Duty Hems and Eyelets, recommended if your mesh banner is over 10 square metres in size.

Material Specification

Our Mesh Banner material is waterproof and flame retardant to B1 standard thanks to a special coating, making it ideal for use indoors or outdoors. Strengthening within the mesh makes it tear and rip resistant to normal pressures too.

Free Delivery on Orders over £250

We deliver Mesh Hanging Banners for free if your order totals over £250 excluding VAT.

Design Guide for Mesh Banners

Set your dimensions correctly

Please set your artwork to the correct dimensions of your final printed mesh banner.  We do not require any bleed on the artwork for a printed mesh. If necessary, you can set your artwork to scale.

Set the correct CMYK colour settings

Please make sure that you set your colour settings to CMYK.  Our mesh banner printers use a full colour solvent printing process which works using a CMYK Process.  Files that are sent to use using an RGB setup will be changed automatically.  Sometimes this can make the colours on your mesh printed banner seem weak & washed out.  We will check for this before printing and contact you if required.

Position of eyelets on your Printed Mesh Hanging Banners

Please leave clear area  approx 50mm inside the outside of the banner. Background colour / images are fine, just no important text elements, small print or logos as these can be obscured by the eyelets.  Around our mesh banners we will add hem and eyelets unless otherwise stated.  It is not advised to have just eyelets (without the hem) as this can cause the material to rip.
We space our eyelets approx every 500mm apart unless otherwise stated.  Eyelets will be evenly spaced so eyelet spacing might vary slightly on different sizes of banners.

Pole Pockets on Mesh Hanging Banners

We can finish your mesh banners with pole pockets if required.  Please make sure when ordering / setting of your artwork that your artwork / finished file size is set to the finished overall size of the banner including the pole pockets.  Standard scaffold tubes are a 150mm flat pocket size to fit comfortably with plenty of space as to not cause to much tension on the pocket seam.  Please ensure that you leave a clear area at the top and the bottom of the banners to allow for the pockets. To explain – if your banner is 2m height please set to 2m height and then make sure that no text, logos and its info enters the top 150mm or bottom 150mm of the design area.  Solid colour/ background images or patterns are fine just not text or vital information. Check here for more information on pole pockets and how to design for them.

Design Principles for Mesh Hanging Banners

Because mesh banners are used for advertising its always important to think of viewing distances.  Always create your artwork to give the highest possible impact. Contrasting colours will give your banner much more clout than washed out subtle colours.
Also think about text sizes.  The larger the text the more it will be viewed from a distance.  Use upper and lower fonts.  Look at road signs as they are all in upper and lower type rather than all capitals. Subconsciously your eyes will read upper and lower (sentence case).  Font type…. Normally clearer fonts work better than stripy unreadable fonts.  Look at most main brands, i.e. McDonalds, IKEA, B&Q, Dominos Pizza – all these companies use very readable fonts and typefaces.
Less is more, cramming every little bit of information onto your mesh banner probably isn’t a good idea.  Remember to use clear areas of space and give your design space to breathe.  The best adverts are always simple and straight to the point.  Remember your average viewer needs to read your message in 3 seconds or less.

Frequently Asked Questions »

What's the maximum size mesh banner you can print?

We produce mesh hanging banners to any size, including ones big enough to wrap around buildings. Our machines print onto 5m wide rolls and sections of mesh are welded together to create bigger banners.

Why should I choose a Mesh Banner?

Mesh material allows wind to pass through it. If your banner is going to be placed in an exposed location, you should use Mesh. This reduces the wind-loading on the structure you install it on.

Do I need reinforced hems?

We can add reinforced hems too your hanging banners if required. You can select this option in the finishing instructions section of the order process. Reinforced hems are a special reinforced webbing welded into the hem which is added to each edge of the banner. This webbing gives the edges added strength for extra durability.

What type of eyelets do you use?

All banners are eyeleted using nickel plated silver eyelets which have a 12mm hole. All banners which specify hem and eyelets are eyeleted every 500mm. Eyelets are evenly spaced across the length and width of the banner so gaps will be as near to 500mm as possible. If you require more eyelets or require them in certain positions, please add this into your order notes.

What are pole pockets?

We can finish you mesh banner with pole pockets if required, We can make the pocket any size you require.

Can this material be printed on both sides?

No. This is a single sided printed only. The reverse side will be white in colour.

I want to order x6 banners but would like you to print x1 of each design. Is this possible?

Yes of course. Upload all your files, then in the additional information box let us know the breakdown of quantities.

How long is delivery?

Standard Mesh Banners will be with you in 5-6 working days from order and approval of artwork.

Can you colour match?

Buying banners in confidence

You can buy from Banner World with confidence. Your job will go through several checks before manufacture. Firstly when your job comes in, we check all your uploaded files and cross-reference each file against your order. At this point, if we see that artwork is incorrect or if there is a file missing we will contact you to request new artwork. Most of our banners and fabrics are manufactured at our large print factory in Europe. Our standard turnaround on items is 5-6 working days for delivery. Even though most of our ordering system has been automated, we still carry out several manual checks before processing your order. If at any point we have a question or a problem with your order you will be contacted before manufacturing.

Our processes

Please read the information below on how your order is processed. Each order goes through several checks before printing. Our file checking service is standard procedure on all orders. Checking your files means that you can place your order in confidence, knowing that we will check to make sure your order and corresponding artwork match and are correct. Anything we are not sure that we will contact you before proceeding.

What is Our Initial checking service?

When you place an online order, we will cross-reference your artwork against your order. At this point, we will check that the artwork sizes and file type match the order. We will make sure we have the correct number of artwork files for the job. At this stage, if anything appears to be incorrect, we will place the order on hold and contact you immediately.

How do we process your order?

Once we are happy with your order, we will then process it. We collate all the information for each job, including finishing and material type. The job information is then sent with your artwork to the pre-press department. Pre-press is where we will create and prepare your job for printing.

Our Pre Press and second checking service.

Pre-press refers to the stage before printing. Here your artwork is converted into the correct format for our machines and finishing processes. At this point, if something is spotted which isn’t correct or if there is a problem we will again contact you.

How do we print and track your order through the factory?

Your job is now batched together with other items on the same material. Each item has assigned to it a unique code. The code is used to track the order through our factory. The information is used to check the material, quantity and finishing information on the item. The order then goes through our print presses.

How do we finish your printed items?

Every job we produce is different to the next, whether it be size, material, shape or finishing. Your printed items will be finished as requested on your order. We automate as much of the finishing as possible, cutting down on labour costs and passing on the savings to you. The Prepress data is inputted into parts of our finishing equipment. Your graphics are now finished to your custom requirements. Each printed product is set up differently for each type of finishing process. A banner that has hem and eyelets will be manufactured and produced in a different way to a flag with a pole pocket.

How are your items packed?

We have now manufactured your items. The finishing pieces now move onto the packing department. At the packing stage, we collate your order. Items get checked off against the order using the order code system. The printed goods get wrapped and packed, ready for despatch.

How do you ship my goods?

Now your item has been packed it is ready to be shipped. From placing your order, your goods have taken approx 24-48 hours to get to this stage. We have a logistics team which arrange the shipping through UPS. Our standard delivery (£15 or free over £250) will now take an additional three days to be delivered to an address on UK mainland and most of mainland Europe. Our standard shipping will travel via road and sea to reach the UK. We do offer a faster 1-day shipping method which is our 4-day turnaround service. The fast turnaround service is expensive on low-value bulky orders and is more cost-effective on higher volume jobs. Items to the US and other worldwide destinations will take longer to be delivered. For items going to Ireland, the Isle of Wight, Isle of Man, Scottish highlands etc. please add an extra day onto delivery times
