Heavyweight and Durable Banners

Heavyweight and durable our 450gsm express banners are printed using high-quality latex print technology. This print process allows us to quickly make high-quality durable banners which will stand up to the elements.

Banner Finishing

Crucial to the quality and longevity of any banner are the methods used to finish it. Traditionally, banners were always stitched. Whilst we still offer stitching (always on fabric materials), we more commonly use specialist high-bond double-sided tape on our Express Banners. This gives a much stronger, more predictable and more aesthetically pleasing finish than stitching.

Express Banner Sizes

We print Express Banners on roll widths up to 1370mm. Larger banners are printed even more cost-effectively on our Grand Format machines which use roll widths up to 5m.

Express Banner Specifications

  • Tough 450gsm PVC Banner
  • B1 Flame Retardant, Certificate available
  • Fadeproof and scratch resistant
  • Ideal indoors or outdoors

Alternative Banner Products

Express Banners are of course ideal as an inexpensive advertising medium, producing high-quality print that lasts and at a low price. Here are some alternatives for you to consider…

Event Banner

This is an even cheaper version of our Premium Banner which is essentially produced on a slightly lower quality material – ideal for one-off or short-term events! Sizes are limited to 2.5m in one dimension.

Double-Sided Blockout Banner

This banner material is designed for double-sided prints (think banners on lamp posts) or where an extremely tough banner is required. 650gsm rather than 500gsm, this material also benefits from a blockout liner which prevents light show-through.

Mesh Banner

Larger and more exposed banners will act as a giant sail when the wind hits. This can rip the banner from its fixings or cause damage to the structure it is fitted to. Mesh PVC and Fabric materials benefit from thousands of tiny holes which allow some wind to pass through, thus reducing wind loading.

Fabric Banners

We offer a wide range of polyester and cotton based fabrics suitable for internal and external banners. Fabrics benefit from looking better, being much lighter (from 115gsm) and from being more environmentally-friendly. Fabrics are printed using our dye-sublimation process which produces stunning rich hues and vibrant eye-popping colours.

Banner Design Tips

Get your banner size right

You can design your banner at actual size or to scale, depending on the software you use. Ensure that your final print file will scale up in proportion to the size of banner you have ordered.

Allow for Eyelets and/or Pole Pockets in your design

Ensure that no critical information is within 100mm of the edge of your banner design, this allows room for eyelets, hems and other finishing options. Background images and graphics are fine, just be wary of text, numbers and logos.

Your artwork should be set to CMYK

Set your artwork to CMYK, as this matches the print process. If your artwork is in RGB mode, the colours may not come out as expected.

Colour Matching

Colour matching to Pantone references is possible, but may take longer and will incur an extra charge. Files including pantone colours will be converted to CMYK unless you specify a colour match in your order.

Design Principles

Banners are first and foremost an advertising medium. Information displayed should be clear to read – consider how far away your target audience will be. If your banner is intended to be viewed from a distance then the contrast should be high and typefaces need to be legible. If you try to cram too much information onto a banner then the text may end up too small to read!

PVC Banner Fitting Methods

Banner Tension Frame

Traditionally used for flexface or illuminated backlit banners, there are now many low-profile banner tension frame systems on the market. Some allow the fast changeover of banners for seasonal promotions. These frames tension the banner like a drumskin, giving a solid sign effect. Check your tension frame specifications prior to ordering your banner – some require just additional material around the banner, some require specific pole pockets, some require a solid rubber edging welded in.

Wall Screws

Typically long length screws can be used, with large penny washers over the eyelets to protect the banner. It is vital to achieve the proper tension on banners fitted by this method – too loose and the wind will cause the banner to flap and affect hems and eyelets.

Bungee Ties

Once fixing points have been completed on the wall – typically large eye or hook bolts – bungee clips or ties can be used to attach to the banner eyelets. This method tensions the banner as well as allowing some ‘give’ when the wind hits, thus protecting hems and eyelets.

Wire Frame & Bungee

A steel wire frame can be run through eye bolts approximately 300mm outside the banner. Once the wire is tensioned, the banner can be fitted using a zig-zag of bungee cord. This gives the effect of a trampoline on its side, tensions the banner and allows some ‘give’ for high winds.

Portable Banner Display Solutions

We stock a variety of portable, easy-to-use, outdoor banner display solutions. These are ideal for outdoor events or special forecourt promotions.

Artwork Guidelines Back to top

Before submitting artwork, please make sure you have read these guidelines carefully as we cannot accept responsibility for any incorrect printing due to setup / artwork error.

File Formats

We only accept files in PDF, AI, EPS, JPEG, PSD or TIF Formats
(Tif / PSD files must be flattened)

Type

All Text on files must be created to outlines, curves or paths.  Please make sure text is converted before saving PDF files.

Colour Settings

All Files must be set to CMYK format.  Please make sure there are no spot colours or pantones in your artwork as this can output unexpected results.    As our service is a CMYK 4 colour process we cannot guarantee exact matches to Pantone, Ral or Spot colours.

Colour Matching

Each and every print machine, hand head device, desktop printer will interperature colours differently. Due to print tolerances and the nature of our business we cannot guarantee an exact match to something that is shown on a computer screen.  Most creams, greys and CMYK printed golds can print differently to how they look like on screen.  If you are unsure regarding colours then please ask or quote a pantone reference.   For larger jobs it is advisable to order a minimum order sample of the colour before ordering, but doing this will delay the order for another 5-6 working days.  We can match Pantones if required at an additional charge.   Please contact us prior to ordering as this is costed per job. We cannot guarantee an exact match on Pantone colours due to limitations of the CMYK print process but will try to achieve as close as physically possible.

Artwork Templates

For certain items an artwork template is supplied on the product page.  These templates are only for items which are set to a specified size. Ie feather flags / deckchairs etc.  This will need downloading and your artwork setting on the template prior to ordering.  If using the template please assign a separate layer for the artwork and save as a layered pdf, ai or eps file.  Please embed images and create outlines on the type before saving.

Clear areas on pole pockets

Please make sure that you leave a clear area for your pockets. The term ‘clear area’ means no items of text or logos.  So if you have 150mm flat pockets top and bottom, please don’t let any text or logos to run into these areas. Please note that on a 1500mm flat pocket you will also need to leave an additional 25mm extra for the weld (so 175mm in total. Background colours or images are fine, just no readable text or logos.

Double sided banners

We have special software which flips certain parts of your banners so as to create a seamless pocket on the opposite side. When ordering a double sided banner please just follow the above steps, as the file(s) will need to be set up in the same way. If you require a different image on each side of your double sided banner not a problem, just upload x2 files stating that you require a different image on each side.
For the full comprehensive guide on Pole Pockets click this link please refer to our Pole Pocket Guide here.

Bleed & Crop Marks
